Dornsife School of
Public Health

The school was founded on the principle of health as a human right and the recognition of the importance of social justice as a means to achieve health for all. Their mission is to provide education, conduct research, and partner with communities and organizations to improve the health of urban populations in Philadelphia and around the world.

Project

Viewbook + Alumni Magazine Redesign

Purpose

Reimagine two of their primary recruitment tools as part of a larger effort to increase enrollment and engagement, and highlight the breadth of their work and impact in the public health field.

Story

In both publications, we drew inspiration from their focus on urban health. Located in Philadelphia, Dornsife's impact within communities across the city is vast, and was a differentiator to highlight through the design.

For the alumni magazine, we set the masthead in a tall, condensed typeface anchored to a white bar, which, together, resembles a skyline. On the interior pages, text columns are set at a variety of widths and heights, creating a visual relationship to the buildings in a cityscape.

For the viewbooks, we reimagined the format from one single book covering all of their degree programs — Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctorate — to three individual books that are tailored for each audience. The Master’s program is the school’s largest, so began with this one to establish the overall design for the series. The cover features a unique graphic that symbolizes the title of the books — “Urban Health. Global Focus.” — and gives the school a visual tool that differentiates them from the rest of Drexel, while keeping within the university-wide identity system.
